Our Mission
Research Administration and Finance supports the University’s
education and research missions by providing the administrative
infrastructure for faculty to pursue extramurally-funded
research. In order to achieve this mission, Research
Administration and Finance represents the interests of the
faculty and University in discussions with University
decision-makers, oversees an umbrella of policies aimed at
ensuring best-practices in research administration, provides
guidance to researchers on emerging issues, and maintains the
infrastructure necessary for a world-class educational and
research organization.
Decision-making – policy development and implementation
- Represent research interest in discussions with
University decision-makers.
- Advise faculty and University decision-makers on
emerging issues that impact research.
- Develop and implement University policies related to
research to ensure that the interests of both faculty and
the University are protected.
Infrastructure – ensuring systems exist to support
research
- Maintain systems designed to encourage, support, and
manage extramurally-funded research:
- A people system focused on supporting faculty from
proposal development, through proposal submission and
acceptance, and finally to grants management and
close-out.
- Use of technology to support grant life-cycle,
enhance decision-making with data analysis, and minimize
people-to-system or system-to-system overlaps.
- Maintain an animal facility (CLAC) and an Animal Care
Committee that supports the basic science and translational
science initiatives of the University.
Communication and partnership – ensuring the success of
our research environment
- Create culture of support and teamwork through training
and teamwork.
- Advising faculty and the University on emerging issues
in research administration.
- Maintaining a research administration infrastructure
designed to help faculty and staff comply with federal and
state regulations and legislation and University policies.
